Final Exam Study Tips

N.C. A&T Students:

We are in the final stretch of the semester! The stressors are real, the pressures are mounting, and the body and soul are tired. So, as you traverse through the last few weeks of the semester, remember ways to relax and refresh while studying…and things to avoid—even when tempted.

  1. Take three deep breaths and slowly exhale after each breath. If you’re still feeling anxious, do this simple exercise three more times in a quiet space and with your eyes closed.

  2. Walk or exercise for at least 15-30 minutes. Your body needs a break. The work will still be there upon your return.
  3. Meditate. Rather than only focusing on the challenges ahead, take time to reflect on what you have accomplished thus far.
  4. Get up. If you’re tired or overwhelmed, get up (see no. 2).

Things NOT to Do:

  1. Don’t quit. You have not done it up to this point, so don’t start now.

  2. Don’t drink excessively or use other substances. Although it might make you feel better for a moment, you still have to perform at your best level.
  3. Don’t make rash decisions. After the current pressures have subsided, you do not want to have to deal with the aftermath of your poor choices. Always be smart and think about the consequences in advance.
