Get your work published, contribute to your community, and receive a $50 payment via check or gift card. Here are somethings to complete to get your Solutions Journalism (SoJo) or Community News story published on storieswetell.news.
Stories submitted could be done for a class assignment, the A&T Register or Aggie News.
Community Journalism
- The community news story must be about a person, business or an issue in the community near N.C. A&T
- Stories must quote actual people in the community. Include as much identification about the person as possible:
- Name (first and last)
- Age,
- NCAT affiliation (if they have it),
- Street or neighborhood, how long they have lived there
- Occupation.
- The community members quoted could be more than people who are in offices, consider:
- Residents
- Community organizers
- Neighborhood members
- City Council members
- Students quoted must include their major and classification.
Solutions Journalism (SoJo)
The Solutions Journalism story must answer the four pillars of solutions journalism:
- response to an issue
- insight that was revealed by the story
- evidence from other entities who are trying to solve or
- have solved the issue and limitations of the aforementioned solutions.
The main theme of one of our grants centers on issues that impact student mental health—but that could encompass a number of other concerns including housing, parking, poverty, food choices, any form of abuse, gender identity, and so on.

For submission for SWT, you will be required to answer the six questions from this SoJo diagram and include them at the top of your solutions story.
Consider answering these questions before you start to write and/or as you begin to report so that you would know you have a Solutions story. (This is also true for video packages.)
