In an environment where many students follow the same well-worn path, Makinna Moore stands out as an example of creativity and individuality. A senior studying fashion and business at North Carolina A&T State University, Moore is quickly emerging as a rising force within the creative community. She has already begun making her mark, securing opportunities that once seemed like distant dreams.

Growing up in Northern Virginia, where creative outlets were scarce and the emphasis was often on politics, Moore had to find her own means of self-expression. Her drive to create only grew stronger when she arrived at N.C. A&T.
While many students get involved in traditional college organizations, Moore focused on building her brand through modeling, social media, and events. Her early college years were spent working on photoshoots, fashion shows, and influencer-driven projects, allowing her to build a strong creative
community around her.
“I realized you don’t have to follow the traditional college blueprint,” she says. “It’s okay to create your own path. If you’re not passionate about something, it won’t make you happy.”
Moore’s career took a significant step forward when she secured an internship with Proenza Schouler, a renowned luxury fashion brand in New York City. The experience proved both humbling and empowering, highlighting the value of her unique perspective in an industry where diversity is often limited.

For Moore, success isn’t just about gaining followers or landing brand partnerships; it’s about creating an inclusive, supportive space for others through being authentic. She’s passionate about helping other creatives, particularly fellow students at N.C. A&T, gain recognition and resources to succeed.
“There’s so much talent at A&T, but it often goes unrecognized,” Moore says. “I want to create a community where people’s work is celebrated. I want to be the person I never had when I started my journey.”
Moore’s platform isn’t just about self-promotion; it’s about being a resource for others who might feel out of place or uncertain in their creative paths. She uses her voice to create a safe space for people to express themselves authentically, without fear of judgment or exclusion.
“I want my community to feel included and supported. When you build relationships based on kindness and authenticity, that connection isn’t short-term. It’s long-lasting and meaningful,” Moore explains.
A key moment in Moore’s journey came when she attended CultureCon, a creative conference in Brooklyn, New York. While there, she was featured on Vogue magazine’s Instagram and website, where her distinctive style and unique look were showcased. The spotlight marked a significant milestone in her growing influence within the fashion industry.

Looking ahead, as Moore prepares for graduation in May 2025, she shows no signs of slowing down. Her next goal is to create more opportunities for creatives, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds. She envisions organizing a large-scale conference—similar to Culture Con—where creatives can come together to share ideas, collaborate, and expand their networks.
“My long-term goal is to create a space where people can come together, collaborate, and celebrate one another,” she says. “I want to continue to grow my platform and use it to make a difference.”
Moore’s next steps include working in fashion PR or marketing in New York, with a dream of collaborating with Body by Raven Tracy, a brand she admires. No matter where her career takes her, she’s committed to staying true to her roots.
“I want my legacy to reflect my HBCU background, my faith, and the people who’ve supported me,” she says. “I want people to know that I came from somewhere, and that anything is possible with hard work and authenticity.”
Makinna Moore’s story is just beginning, but it’s clear that she’s poised for continued success. With resilience, passion, and a commitment to inclusivity, she’s already making a lasting impact on the world of fashion.
