The 2026 NABJ-Acel Moore Scholarships will award two NABJ student members $3,000 each.
The scholarship honors NABJ co-founder Acel Moore, who sought to make a difference in the world through journalism.
Moore worked as a reporter, columnist and editor at The Philadelphia Inquirer, where he was one of the first Black journalists hired. He went on to win a Pulitzer Prize with colleague Wendell L. Rawls Jr. for stories exposing the harsh conditions and inhumane treatment of mentally ill patients at Fairview State Hospital, which sparked reform. Moore served as associate editor emeritus until his death in 2016.
The NABJ-Acel Moore Scholarship remembers Moore’s legacy of creating positive change through the power of journalism.
