Earn $10,000 through the NABJ-Pam Moore Scholarships

NABJ is offering journalism students $10,000 awards through the Pam Moore Scholarships.

The scholarship honors veteran journalist and award-winning broadcaster Pam Moore. Moore worked as an anchor for KRON4’s evening newscasts. KRON4 later renamed its news studio Pam Moore Studio4 in recognition of her 32 years of service to the network.

Moore earned the George Foster Peabody Award and the Pew Center Batten Prize for Civic Journalism for her work on KRON4’s series “About Race.” She also received an Emmy nomination for the special “Selma to Ferguson” and an Emmy for “Who Owns Your Health.” The SF Bay Area Publicity Club named her Best Bay Area Anchor, and the Bay Area Black Journalists Association honored her commitment to journalism in 2009.

The alumna of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and Detroit, Michigan, native was inducted into the 2025 NABJ Hall of Fame and served as vice president for broadcast.

The Pam Moore Scholarships will be awarded to two students living in Detroit and three students living in the San Francisco Bay Area, each receiving $10,000.

Eligibility criteria

  • Applicants must be current NABJ members who are rising college sophomores, juniors, seniors or graduate students from the Detroit or San Francisco Bay Area, with at least one full year of school remaining at the time of application and disbursement of funds at an accredited U.S. college or university, and in good standing.   • Majoring in journalism
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, verified by an official transcript
  • 500-word essay or a video (five minutes or less) describing financial need, leadership and passion for journalism, and how living in Detroit or the San Francisco Bay Area may have influenced your desire to pursue the field
  • Completion of all application requirements
