Applications for The Chronicle of Higher Education Spring 2026 Internship are open!

The Chronicle of Higher Education is hiring two Spring 2026 Editorial Reporting Interns to join its newsroom from February to May. This full-time, paid internship provides hands-on experience in higher-education journalism, allowing students to work alongside professional reporters and editors in Washington, D.C.

Interns will contribute to The Chronicle’s daily news coverage, assist with data and long-term reporting projects. They will also have opportunities to work on in-depth stories.

This hybrid role is based in the D.C. office, with remote options available for interns residing in select states including Virginia, Maryland, Michigan, Washington, Texas, Florida, North Carolina and New York. Pay is $800 a week.

Key Responsibilities

• Report and write stories that contribute to The Chronicle’s daily and newsletter coverage

• Assist with long-term and data-focused reporting projects

• Collaborate with editors and reporters on story development and newsroom initiatives

Eligibility Criteria

• Must be an undergraduate or graduate student with experience in reporting, writing or producing published work

• Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills

• Must have prior newsroom experience, either professional or collegiate

• Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred
