The Raleigh News & Observer is Now Accepting Applications for News Interns!
The Raleigh News & Observer is seeking dedicated journalism students to join its newsroom for summer 2026. This paid, full-time internship offers hands-on reporting experience at one of North Carolina’s leading news organizations.
Interns will work as reporters or visual journalists, covering local news and developing strong storytelling and content creation skills. They will also receive mentorship and guidance from experienced editors throughout the program.
The internship runs for 10 weeks, beginning at the end of May or the beginning of June. Interns are expected to work 40 hours per week, including occasional nights and weekends.
Eligibility Criteria
• Must be a current student or recent graduate with prior newsroom or journalism experience
• Must have strong writing, research and reporting skills
• Must demonstrate accuracy, curiosity and attention to detail
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
• Strong writing and reporting skills
• Prior experience at a college publication or professional newsroom
• Familiarity with social media and digital storytelling tools
• Strong collaborative skills and ability to work well in a team
