Applications for the Houston Chronicle Summer 2026 Reporting Internship are Open!
The Houston Chronicle is seeking driven journalism students to join its newsroom for the summer 2026 internship program. This paid, full-time opportunity offers hands-on experience reporting for one of Texas’ leading news organizations while working alongside award-winning journalists in Houston.
Interns will cover breaking news and trending stories, contributing to daily coverage and news updates. They will gain real-world experience working in a fast-paced newsroom, learning how to report with accuracy and speed.
The internship runs for 10 weeks from early June to early August. Interns are expected to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend coverage as needed. Pay is $15 per hour.
Key Responsibilities
- Report and write timely, accurate stories for digital and print platforms
- Monitor local and national news sources, social media and Google Trends to identify breaking and developing stories
- Collaborate with editors, photographers and the audience team to produce accurate, fast and engaging coverage
- Contribute to live blogs and follow-up coverage as news develops
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a junior, senior or recent graduate with prior experience at a college or professional newsroom
- Must have a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
- Must be able to obtain housing in Houston and work in the Chronicle’s office at least three days a week
