The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation is accepting applications for its Summer 2026 Journalism & Media Internship. This paid opportunity, based in Chicago with a hybrid in-office and virtual schedule, allows students to support the Foundation’s journalism and media work while gaining experience in research, writing and nonprofit project coordination.
Interns will review grant proposals, help analyze work produced by grantees, conduct research on trends in the wider journalism and media field, assist with planning grant-related events and support internal learning opportunities. Students will also help with social media strategy to promote the work of grantee partners.
This internship runs from June 9 to Aug. 12, 2026. Interns must reside in Chicago for the duration of the program. Housing assistance for non-local students may be available and will be discussed during the interview process.
