Unsung Heroes

Most people have heard of the Greensboro Four or A&T Four — Ezell Blair Jr., Franklin McCain, Joseph McNeil and David Richmond — and the events of Feb. 1, 1960. However, the Woolworth sit-ins were not a one-day, four-person show; it took a village. Our Unsung Heroes – Evander Gilmer, Nathan Knight and Robert Patterson – celebrate other participants who helped change a nation. Here are their stories.

Evander Gilmer
Activist turned musician

By Andre Battiste and Aniya Misher

Nathan Knight
The legend of a leader

By Kani’ya Davis and  Steven Matthews
