Students wanting to attend this year’s National Association of Black Journalist (NABJ) national convention have the chance to apply to the Virgil and Joann Smith Family Student Grants.
The grant’s value is set at $2,000 and aiming to cover the cost of expenses including registration, lodging, and travel.
The national convention will take place in Atlanta,GA from August 12-16, 2026. Three grants will be awarded.
The deadline to apply is Friday, April 24 at 11:59 PT
Awardees will be invited to attend a hosted breakfast or lunch with Dr. Virgil L. Smith and Dr. Joann E. Smith during #NABJ26.
Application Requirements:
– NABJ student member in good standing during the time of the application and disbursement of funds
– Undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior at the time of the application and disbursement of funds at an accredited U.S. college or university
– A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale), verified by an official transcript.
– Contact information of three references
– Three (3) references and two (2) work samples
– Completion of application requirements
– Awardee selections will be made by the 2026 NABJ Selection Committee. If selected, failure to meet the noted criteria will result in a refund of funds to NABJ.
