Good News in the Neighborhood

Journalism students from North Carolina A&T have spent over year building relationships and writing stories about neighborhoods near campus. The project has been supported with grants from the Center for Community News and the Solutions Journalism Network.



Many of the stories are shedding light on “good news” about the community – the biggest of which is the remaking of the Windsor Community Center. The location is being transformed into the $75-milllion Windsor Chavis Nocho Community Complex.  When the site, reopens in 2027, it will feature a recreation center, pool, library, computer room and medical center.

The Beloved Community Center is a Greensboro-based non-profit organization that promotes social justice and equity through advocacy, community building, and grassroots organizing. This short documentary highlights how two of the Beloved Community Center’s initiatives are positively impacting the Greensboro community.


Meet the Residents of the Community


 Situated just a few blocks from N.C. A&T and Bennett College, the complex will be an asset for both universities and will provide myriad opportunities for students and faculty to connect with the community, its residents and leaders.
